You are working at the local clinic and you hear a commotion in the front of the building. When you arrive you find a woman holding a two-year-old boy in her arms. They are covered in ash and soot. The woman is crying and states that the cooking stove in the house caused a fire while she was outside. She ran into the house to find her son.
The boy has an obvious burn on his outer thigh from the hip to the foot and his entire upper back. He is covered in soot and ash. You move quickly to the examination area and begin your assessment of the boy while your colleague begins an evaluation of your patient’s mother.
